At this point in time, Bae and I had decided that we wanted to move back East. She got a great new job opportunity that she took, and was already working remotely for an office in the D.C. area. I just had to get a job, as my fellowship was to run out by August 2021.
At the beginning of 2020, I was totally ready to change careers and do something else. Academia is fun, but I was really getting tired of the “always working” mentality that pervades this field. However, covid changed allllllllllll that. I wasn’t about to switch careers when the future was just so uncertain. However, I was still pretty selective of what jobs I applied for, limiting myself to the D.C. area.
Now, if you aren’t in academia, you might not know that these jobs are annoying as fuck to apply to. Each app takes ~20 hours of work, at least. You pour your soul out into these applications, and feel lucky as hell if you can get an interview. Why do we do it???? I guess we like getting paid just to think about stars ‘n shit.
Anyway, job applications made this time just so unfun. At least “you know who” lost an election. Democrats aren’t great, but Republicans are really fucking dumb. Like, really fucking dumb…but more on that later. Did I make you cry, snowflake?
