This day was a transition day. We were to say good bye to the lovely casa we were staying at in Bern, and move to an airbnb with my parents to cottage up a hill on the north side of Thunersee.
Before my parents arrived, I took one of Betty’s bikes out for a spin around the neighborhood. It was so confusing riding around here. All roads look like driveways, and when I was trying to make my way back, the google bike route took me to a spot where I was to carry my bike up like 150 steps. Yeah, no thanks. Anyway, you can see where I went here.
Around lunch time, my parents picked us up in a car and we drove on over to the airbnb. The drive only took 45 minutes, but if you’ve ever been to Europe you know that the cars and roads are just tiny. We were smashed into the little Moka something. A larger car would have been hard to drive around, so it was better to be smashed in with all of our bags. Just make sure that if you’re planning a trip to Europe, think about if you need a car, and if you do, think about how much space you might need.
The airbnb was super sweet, but it was about 1,000ft up from the lake. We had to drive up a tight, windy road to get up there, on which the locals drove very fast. But the views were incredible!
We didn’t do a whole lot today, but there was a pretty cool pedestrian bridge that crossed a gorge that was just down the hill, so we checked that out. It was a little nerve wracking to go across, and apparently was not free. It was free for us, though, because we didn’t cross all the way. Take that, knife people.
And the Garmin for that fun little STEEP hike:
