Today was a travel day. My parents drove us back to Betty’s house, where we were able to get a final farewell in before traveling to Zurich whilst my parents flew back to US&A. Betty had a busy day, but she still managed to make us some bomb food.

Yeah, so that was delicious.

After devouring our lunch, we hopped on a train to Zurich. Our hotel was in the northern part of the city, so we dropped our stuff off, then hopped on another train back down to the city center to explore.

I talked shit earlier about how quaint European cities all look the same, but Zurich was definitely not one of those. Zurich is a serious city, with some large tech and industrial sections. I’m told this is because the cost of business in Zurich is much less than the other Swiss Cantons, so people do business. I won’t get into much of it here, but I sure learned a lot about the Swiss government on this trip. The cantons (city-states) are very autonomous, and the federal government seems to only exist to make sure they have banks and remain neutral in wars. That’s just my take, though. You should actually read a book if you’re interested.

Anyway, following are some pictures of the stroll we did around Zurich downtown.

This is a rhino at the end of this street with all kinds of rich people shops where you get assigned a helper as soon as you walk in. We did not walk into these shops.
This store was perfect for me to practice “der” vs. “die” German.
This store was hilarious. It contained a ton of USA sports memorabilia, like that signed Predators jersey in the window.
One cool thing about birds is that they seem to stick around for much longer than most other animals that the human race ends up killing. It’s always fun seeing Great Blue Herons in Europe, the Chesapeake, and in random mountain lakes in New Mexico. Good bird.
Real life gypsies.
View from the top of this park with the gypsies. There were many city tours happening.
