Alright kids, so thanks to the Astronomy Gods, we are getting a nice small Baecae to this archipelago you may have heard about…Hawaii. We stacked some days before and after the AAS conference to enjoy the weather since Salt Lake City is COLD (sorry Joy!). Joy is taking care of our cats. WE ARE SO GRATEFUL.

Our flight in was direct from SLC to Honolulu, where the conference was to be held. The flight was 6 hours and uneventful for the most part. We had a screaming baby sitting right to our left, but with my airplane luck, I’ve learned to just accept that as part of flying. I tried to do work during the flight, but as soon as we took off, the dude in front of me leaned his chair back so that my tray was in my chest all flight (not easy to work on a laptop from that position). Also, it was bumpy as hell, so motion sickness was a thing all flight. I still managed to accomplish a few things, then watched Pirates of the Caribbean (quality film). Bae watched a bunch of films, some of which were good enough to watch completely through (like WALL-E), and some she only managed the first 10 minutes (Rocketman).

Anyway, the planed landed with only a small bounce, then we walked the mile to get to the street (the airport there is a labyrinth, apparently). We took a cab to our hotel because I hate uber. I’ve seen how terrible of drivers most of you all are. I don’t need that nonsense in my life. The cab got us to the Aqua Palms resort at Waikiki beach no problem.

Now, I don’t know if any of y’all have been to Honolulu before, but the resort district/Waikiki beach is how I imagine Disney World to be. Everything looks artificially nice and you can tell it’s a place where many families spend exorbitant amounts of money, desperate for a good time. Only there aren’t theme parks and rides — just the ocean and warmth. I’ll tell you what though, that is plenty to get excited about.

Despite this high level of toxic fabrication, we had a very nice time last night. We were extremely hungry, so we went straight to this sushi place. They were not yet serving dinner, but they did have a Happy Hour! Sapporro drafts were $2.50, normally $8.50. You are literally losing money by not drinking those, so I was able to take down 2 in the remaining 12 minutes of happy hour. We then destroyed some sushi. Man, it was tasty.

After dinner, we went to the water to watch the sunset. Find pictures below!

That’s Diamond Head. It’s named after a band.
Sun getting real low
A lot of people on the pier trying to watch the sunset.
See?
Could have cropped, but it’s important to show things how they truly are. It was quite nice, though!

Anyway, after the sunset, we got some ice cream, I loaded up the hotel mini fridge, and we passsssssssssed out. Big day tomorrow, hopefully!!!!
