Another year, another vacation abroad folks. Since we don’t have kids like some of you idiots, we get to take fun vacations often. This year, Wife (formerly known as Bae) and I decided to take Wife’s Dad to Scotland. We also invited The Twin (Wife’s twin sister) and longtime friend of the family, GMac. We left from Baltimore and the Twin and GMac left from New Mexico.

Unlike normal, the flights went pretty smoothly. We just connected in Iceland again, which was supposed to be easy last time, but they lost our bags for like 4 days. This time we didn’t check any bags as we learned that lesson. You can pay these airlines all you want, but they’ll still F you in the A, as we say.

Anyway, at the airport we had our potentially last good meal (JK, food has been great in Scotland) at the Greene Turtle. What a place. When not at an airport, these establishments are usually the first sign that a neighborhood is getting gentrified. First, you get these “fancy” restaurants at your old mall, then a Whole Foods, then the rest of the artisan shops. You know how it goes.

I guess one funny bit from the flying process is that it became just a total free-for-all to board the plane in BWI. We are so conditioned now to board via 19 different levels to properly separate the rich and middle class from the poor people, but Iceland Air just sat up there and said “go for it”. It caused some anxiety for us, however, because after being seated on the plane for some time, someone had to take our passports from us, go outside the plane, and scan them. For a split second it seemed as if our plane would take off without our passports. Now that would have been fun.

Fortunately, our passports were returned, and we made it to Glasgow! Wife, Wife’s Father, and I arrive a few hours before The Twim and GMac, so we went to the hotel we were going to be staying at to kill some time. We didn’t really know how to get there, but we used Google Maps to take a direct route. Turns out, we were very much not supposed to walk the way we did.

Oh well, we didn’t die. We ate some lunch (Declan was our server) and then I went on a walk to figure out how to actually get from the airport to the hotel so I could instruct The Twim and GMac. It turns out, there are plenty of signs going the other direction. Here is the little walk I did:

Once The Twin and GMac arrived, we went and got some fish and chips for dinner. We went to this pretty dope take out place in Paisley, then walked to a nearby park that had an…interesting fountain. See for yourself.

See, it’s like a 3rd grader came up with this.

After dinner, it was time to come back to the hotel and SLEEP. Jet lag. So fun.

Some more photos from the Fish and Chips adventure.

First thing I bought were these Delectibles. Lukas knows all about ’em from our trip a decade ago.
