Today was our final day at our Duirinish cabin. The plan was to return the bikes and slowly make our way down to Glasgow. We weren’t sure how the roads were going to be, because remember how early I said south of us was getting 7 inches of rain? Well, that happened, and although we didn’t get 7 inches of rain, we still got A LOT. We had been getting a lot the entire time we were there. It’s a good thing it didn’t rain anymore, because here’s the little bridge to our cabin that was getting close to flooding:

Fortunately, we got out in time and made our way to Fort William. The plan was to check out the locks of the Caledonian Canal, and then go to Ben Nevis, the highest point in Scotland. For those who don’t know, the Caledonian Canal is a series of locks that bridge the lochs of Scotland such that the south western sea by Ireland is connected to the north eastern sea. You can’t fit large ships in it, but we saw some sailboats getting ready to roll.

Here’s a Garmin of where we were in case you want to go.

It is through these canals that the Loch Ness Monster probably made it to Loch Ness. Also, we saw the Loch Ness Monster. Can’t believe I forgot to mention that.

After checking out the canal, we headed for Ben Nevis. Of course, the peak was clouded in, but we got to do a great hike to a waterfall. Rather than post the pictures individually here, you can see the video:

As you can see, THERE WAS SO MUCH WATER. Like, a lot. The trail had waterfalls going down and across it at certain points. Here is the Garmin for that hike:

After Ben Nevis, we headed to Glasgow. Unfortunately, this drive took quite a while as we kept getting stuck behind slow people. Also, surprise, it rained the entire time. However, we did indeed make it! I drove the entire trip on the wrong side of the road and didn’t even crash.

I would do a special summary post, but I’ve taken long enough on this blog. The important thing to know is that we had a GREAT time, and managed to really enjoy ourselves despite the awful weather. Also, the people we interacted with were all super nice. This was my best time abroad so far. It probably helps that we technically speak the same language.

Until next time!
