Before I start today’s post, I just want to say that so far, all Swiss people have been very nice! They will happily deal with my shitty German/speak English to make sure I give them my money. Thats what I’m talking about.
Today we did a day trip to Interlaken. We are now a group of 3, as we have the privilege of hanging out with Betty!! Interlaken is this beautiful city between these two lakes (guess that’s what the name translates to). We started our day by walking up this big boy hill. We didn’t get all the way up, as we had many other cool things to check out, but here are some fantastic views:
It was a pretty dope hike, and we had a tasty picnic along the way.
After we walked down the hill, we took a slow AF train to Lauterbrunnen, which is this sweet mountain town up in the Alps. They had some nice Suisse souvenirs for sale:
Also, there was a pretty damn sweet waterfall to check out.
We were also up in the mountains at this point, and noticed some weird stuff on the side of the mountains. What do you all think these are?
Bae thinks they are vineyards. I do not have a better guess than that.
From this lovely mountain town, we took a tram/gondola up to this little place called Winteregg. Before I tell you about that story, I need to tell you about the new Chinese friends I made before our ascent.
While we were waiting in line to go up this tram, this group of 8 middle-aged Chinese women were freaking out that they couldn’t scan their tickets to get on the tram. They tried to ask me how to get on the tram….which hadn’t arrived yet. I tried to explain to them, in terrible Chinese, that someone would help us when the tram arrived. That sparked a whole ordeal and series of conversation in which I explained I was from New Mexico and one of the ladies excitedly telling me her daughter was in New York for University . Neat. Unfortunately, since I haven’t spoken Chinese in 7 years, I forgot a TON, and probably came across as very illiterate. Need to get that shit back. Here are some photos of the encounter:
Later they wanted to take a photo with me to remember the white boy who could sort of speak Chinese.
After we rescued the Chinese women and finished our ascent, we went on a lovely hike where we got great views of the Alps!!!
It was quite a nice time!!! It’s been really nice being a 3-ship, because we can speak English real loud and cause a raucous. Also, those mountains are nearly 14,000ft high. Way larger than the puny German Alps we were at earlier. Reminded me a little bit of the Alaskan Range…except we could get close via train and tram instead of via nothing.
After our Alpine trip, we headed back to Bern, where we bought some beers to drink and chill. I had a funny experience at the grocery store. So I guess this dude checking out next to me needed a bag, but had already paid. They charged him for a bag on my register, and he gave me the Suisse francs for the bag. I, not understanding suisse-german nor the situation at the time, had no idea why this random dude was handing me money. Once I made it clear I was an American, everyone spoke English to me, explained the situation and everything worked out!!! It was so much less stressful than grocery trips in Munich when we were unexpectedly asked if we were “club members”, or whatever.
We ended the day with a delicious meal made my Betty and one of her roommates, who is an amateur (for now) nature documentator (like me, but more professional and doesn’t pretend to be Australian). Tomorrow, we head to Lucerne to make it rain there. Stand by.

The patterns on the mountains are due to the mountains having been created by a 3D printer, one layer at a time by the world’s largest 3D printer. It is suspected that ancient aliens are responsible for this.

Ah, we did think it maybe had something to do with Ancient Aliens. Those guys were so clever
